The Rose - Quilt Pattern - Jelly Roll or Yardage Option

With the new movie Beauty and the Beast out, I thought it would be perfect to make a quilt in honor of the iconic rose! This rose has a nice traditional feel and look. The Rose Quilt Pattern is also made using ONE block! How cool is that? Since I designed this quilt for two colors, I also made it a yardage option too. If you have a favorite solid jelly roll as well, that would work too!

Today's Free Pattern will be given in the size for Crib. Finished Size is 40" x 40".  This pattern is available in 5 quilt sizes; Crib, Throw, Twin, Full/Queen, and King which is available on my website as a PDF download.

Materials:  (Crib Size. Jelly Roll Strips are 2 1/2" wide by WOF. Sew with a 1/4" seam allowance. Binding uses 2 1/2" Strips. WOF is calculated at 42" wide.)
  • Red Fabric - 20 Jelly Roll strips or 1 yard
  • Background Fabric - 1 3/4 yards
  • Binding -1/4 Yard
  • Backing - 1  1/2 Yards
  • Batting - 46" x 46"
Cutting:

  1. NOTE: If you are using the yardage option, cut yardage into 2 1/2” strips. If you are using Pre-Cut Strips, then skip to step two.
  2. With your 2 1/2” Strips cut 150 - 2 1/2" squares and 50 - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles.
  3. With Background yardage, cut 50 - 4 1/2" squares, and 50 - 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles.
 Piecing:

1. With background 4 1/2” squares, add two 2 1/2” red squares, to the bottom left and top right corners. Sew at a diagonal seam, trim 1/4” away.  (Do this step to all background 4 1/2” background squares.)

2. With a background 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle, add one red 2 1/2" square to the right side, and one 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" red rectangle to the left side. Sew at a diagonal seam, trim 1/4" away. Use the diagram below. (Repeat this step to all background 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles.)

3. Next grab two blocks made in step one and sew them like below.

4. Next grab two blocks made in step two and sew them to the block you made in step three shown below.

5. Make a total of 25 blocks.

Forming your Quilt Top: For the crib size quilt top you will have 5 rows and 5 blocks within each row.You will be rotating every other block.

I hope you all like this new quilt!

  1. Hi, beautiful pattern! I really love that it's just the two solids. Just so you know, the link to the PDF of your pattern doesn't work. It should be http://letsquiltsomething.com/the-rose/ (no ".html" at the end)
